Early Years Pupil Premium

The Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) is additional funding provided to early years settings to help improve the educational development and outcomes of disadvantaged children who are eligible for free early years entitlements.

At Oakengates Nursery School, we are committed to using this funding strategically to support children’s learning, progress and well-being during their earliest years.

What it is and who it’s for

The EYPP is designed to narrow the gap in outcomes for disadvantaged children by providing settings with extra resources to offer targeted support, activities and opportunities that will have the greatest impact on a child’s development.

Children can be eligible for EYPP if they receive at least one hour of free early years entitlement and their parent or carer receives certain qualifying benefits, such as Income Support, Universal Credit (below a specific income threshold), Child Tax Credit (under certain conditions), or other eligible benefits listed by the Telford & Wrekin Council. Adoption, special guardianship and child arrangements orders can also influence eligibility.

How the funding is used

EYPP funding is allocated directly to Oakengates Nursery School where it can be used — alongside other funding streams — to support interventions, resources, staff development and experiences that benefit eligible children’s learning and development. Settings plan spending based on well-evidenced approaches and must use the funding within the academic year for which it was allocated.

We use EYPP to improve outcomes in areas such as language and communication, social confidence, early maths and literacy skills, and to provide tailored support that meets individual needs at the right time.
