Oakengates Nursery School

At Wrockwardine Wood Infant School & Oakengates Nursery Federation we have many tools to help us to keep our children safe. Our school has:

  • a comprehensive Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy with hyperlinks to the Local Telford and Wrekin Safeguarding Children Board website
  • Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL's) who receive regular updates and training (see Child protection Policy)
  • an Educational Visits Policy and the coordinator attends regular updates and training
  • an E-Safety Policy to ensure children know how to stay safe on line
  • E-Safety advice for parents
  • a strong ethos that promotes positive relationships between children/children, children/staff, staff/parents
  • regular OWL sessions/Educational visits/residential visits-to build self-esteem, confidence and resilience
  • a positive Behaviour Management Policy which promotes the Golden rules
  • an Anti-Bullying Policy which promotes children to 'tell'.
  • Learning Powers a way to build children’s skills for life.
  • a Safety Squad- two representatives from each class meet regularly with the PSHE leader to discuss, plan and implement safety themes
  • a PSHE & JIGSAW Policy 
  • a curriculum which embeds our Spiritual Moral Social Cultural (SMSC) Policy
  • strong safeguarding procedures for visitors to school. Different coloured lanyards for different levels of clearance-children are aware of what the different colours represent- black-school staff, yellow -visitor with DBS, red-adult needs to be accompanied by school staff, password collection system.
  • a safeguarding display board to share safeguarding information for staff, children, parents and visitors
  • daily checks so grounds are maintained and are safe
  • a strong partnership and relationships with parents
  • time to make a Home Visit for Nursery and Reception children –to build strong home/school links
  • Risk Assessments which are kept up to date and children are involved in the writing of these for Educational visits
  • signs to remind parents and visitors not to use their mobile phones in school & Nursery
  • Paediatric First Aid trained staff
  • Policy for Supporting children with medical conditions and the administration of medicine
  • a Vulnerable Children communication book which is used to share information so children are cared for and are safe
  • a Health & Safety Policy and procedures e.g. dynamic risk assessments, opening and closing checks. The Governor for H&S reviews actions from the annual H&S audit each term 
  • a Governor for Child Protection who monitors termly any actions which have arisen from the annual Child Protection audit (S11)
  • A Safer Recruitment Policy
